What began as a simple ride for sick children became something far greater.
For years, I rode with a basic, inexpensive bike—showing up each year with one purpose: to raise money and bring hope to children battling illness. But deep down, I carried a vision—to build something more meaningful. A road bike that represented not just the ride, but the mission behind it. And it had to be Canadian.
That vision became real when I found a used Norco road bike, a proudly Canadian company based in British Columbia. It was the perfect foundation.
A close friend from my church stripped the bike down to its bare frame, preparing it for a complete transformation. The frame was then powder coated in a striking blue—symbolizing strength, resilience, and hope.
Then everything changed.
During this process, I was diagnosed with cancer and began treatment at CancerCare Manitoba. In the middle of chemotherapy, facing one of the hardest battles of my life, I made a promise: I would finish this bike, and I would ride again—for the children.
That promise was carried forward with the support of Popeye’s Cycle & Sports. The owner personally rebuilt the bike from the frame up, using top-tier professional components, bringing the vision fully to life.
Today, Blue Lightning Spirit stands as more than a road bike.
It is a symbol of perseverance.
A reflection of faith and community.
And a promise kept.
Every ride is for the children still fighting.
Every mile is a reminder—they are not alone.
